Labour Attendance
The word Doula is a Greek word meaning "women servant or caregiver". It is now universally becoming known as a woman who offers emotional and practical support at a labour.
The role of a Doula is not to replace a midwife, but to work with any medical team attending, helping to create and manage a safe and calm space for the woman to feel empowered and experience childbirth as naturally as possible.
We recommend you meet with a Doula during the third trimester to become acquainted and discuss your pregnancy and birth options.
Doula attendance can be at the home, a birthing center or in a hospital environment.
In addition to attending your labour as a supportive presence, our skills as obstetric acupuncturists can be utilised when and if needed. Specific points used can assist in the progression of each stage of labour, reducing the intensity of contractions and facilitating a smooth and efficient delivery.
